Dutch version

More than three percent of the population in Egypt have learning difficulties. This percentage is higher than in most western countries. One of the reasons is that many people marry within their families. Another reason is that women don't get the appropriate information about using medicine during their pregnancy.

Children with disabilities sometimes have a difficult time in the Arab world. They are often hidden from society and sometimes even despised or neglected. Also poverty is a reason that people with special needs have a difficult life. People with learning difficulties are usually not able to earn an income for themselves or the family and yet it is so necessary in this country to earn an income.

In this new centre the children are learning certain skills, so that the families accept the children more. The changes are of great importance for the child himself, but also for heir communities. When they discover that the child is able to learn certain skills and enjoys learning and practising those skills, there is a strong positive effect in the society.
