Egypt...
Egypt is the country about which you can use the words 'many, much and a lot' . Every year there is a population growth of 1.2 million people. One result of the rapid population growth is that half the population is now under 15 years, and the government hasn't been able to construct schools or train enough teachers. In order to keep up with the population growth, ten thousand new classrooms need to be built each year. Currently, the children are going to school in shifts. There are also many cars. Because of that there is much pollution. There is a lot of hooting. In Egypt, the horn is perhaps the most used accessory of the car. There are many temples, sculptures, and treasures of art. There is also much money, but the value of the money is not much. They pay with notes of 1 Egyptian pound or half an Egyptian pound. One Egyptian pound is around 13 eurocents. Egypt is also the country of the pharaohs' pyramids, and the Nile. It is a big country with many people (70 million). Also many (18 million) people live in the big capital of Cairo. There is so much to say.. Unfortunately it is also a land with many people with learning difficulties... But it is also a land with few centres for people with disabilities.
The Beautiful Oasis is the name of a day-care centre for children with learning difficulties. It is situated in El-Fayoum, a big oasis 100 km south of Cairo. After two years of preparation, the centre opened in November 2004. On the next pages, you can find information about this centre, the services, the daily management, those with learning difficulties in Egypt, and the oasis of El-Fayoum. Also you can find a photo gallery where you can see the most recent photos of the centre. Through this site, The Beautiful Oasis hopes to give you an overview of the centre and the activities in Egypt.
